The Many Faces of Stigma

Recovery Month is a time of joy and celebration. Throughout the month, the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), and others, are celebrating recovery by sharing success stories from the Faces & Voices of Recovery, promoting new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, and informing the community on services and providers where people can access support.

Locally, the New Mexico Behavioral Health Provider Association (sponsored by the New Mexico Human Services Department, Behavioral Health Services Division) created the “Many Faces of Stigma“, a multipurpose educational video addressing stigma, and allowing for a better understanding of how stigmas related to substance use disorders effect people accessing recovery. The video is meant to help the viewers identify their own stigma beliefs, and offer practical suggestions on developing effective tools and skills for use by behavioral health providers.

To continue these efforts, and help people turn desires for recovery into success stories, local communities are hosting recovery events and celebrations. Find the one nearest to you on the Recovery Communities of New Mexico website or the New Mexico Crisis and Access Line website events calendar.
